Gabrielle Aplin

You may not have heard of this wonderful singer but I, as pea 2, want you to be introduced. So a little bit of background first I think. Gabrielle Aplin is 21 years old, pretty young don't you think, she has released 1 album (English Rain) and is most well known for her John Lewis advert. Please don't just judge her on the John Lewis ad though because both pea 1 and I think that that song makes her voice sound a tad boring. Now, however I have seen the error of my ways and I now love her voice because it's so clear and she sounds like a real life Disney princess. I have decided to tell you my top 5 songs just so you can get started with her music.
1. Home
2. November rain
3. Salvation
4. Panic Chord
5 Ghosts
The last song isn't actually on the English Rain album but I have linked the songs all to YouTube so hopefully you can find them easily. I will leave you with her website address so you can check her out.
I know that this was a short post but I hope you still enjoyed it !

Top 5 Music Recommendations (At The Moment)

1. The Pretty Reckless
I know I'm really behind with this, but I only just discovered this band (thanks to Chyaz) and am completely in love with their songs. Some of my favourites are 'Miss Nothing', 'You', and 'Make Me Wanna Die' (not as depressing as it sounds). It may not be for everyone, but I love that they really are rock and their songs are just loud and fun and very addictive - I can't stop listening to Miss Nothing

2. Fall Out Boy
They've really made an amazing comeback and have loads of great new songs, my favourite at the moment being 'My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark'. They do have a bit of a different sound to before as it is a little more polished. Some people think it is a little too over-produced and electronic for their style, but I loved their music before and I still do.

3. The Vamps
I think their songs are just really cute and fun and make you feel happy so...yeah :P

4. Taylor Swift
Love her or hate her, there is no denying that she really is a versatile artist, and her Red album has a song for just about any mood, so there really is something for everyone. I think some people underestimate her because they are only familiar with songs like '22' and 'We Are Never Getting back together' and think that she just makes songs like that, when really she does everything from rock to country to ballads.

5. Avril Lavigne
I know there are maybe more people out there who don't like Avril than people who do, but I think people also underestimate her and judge her by her more well-known (and sometimes annoying, I admit) songs. However, I think that she really shows what she can do as an artist on Under My Skin, which is definitely my favourite album of hers.

I hope this list has given you some ideas of some artists you could listen to if you haven't already!

How To: Make Your Own No-Sew Tutu

I have been making a punk themed dress as textiles coursework, and the skirt is a tutu so I thought I'd show you how to make it. Its super quick and easy, and involves no sewing!

You will need:

  • 3/4 rolls of tulle fabric
  • A ribbon (for the waistband)
  • Scissors
  • A ruler

  1.  Cut the tulle into strips (twice as long as the final length you want). Fold them in half. Then lay the ribbon perpendicular over the folded piece so that just the fold of the tulle is coming out the top, and loop the bottom of the tulle strip through the fold. Pull it a bit tighter, and you should be left with a knot.
   2.  Repeat this with all the strips.
   3.  Once you have finished, tie the ribbon into a bow at the ends, and voila! Your tutu is         finished!

I hope you enjoyed this tuturial (see what I did there), and if you have any questions please comment below!

Avril Lavigne: Album Review

I know this album has been out for a while now, but as we only just started up this blog I thought I'd do a review. You probably don't know this, but I am a massive Avril Lavigne fan; so you can imagine how excited I was when this amazing album came out...I've numbered the songs in order of my preference. Enjoy!

1. Let Me Go
This is one of my favourite songs of all time, and it made me want to take up piano again. The vocals are flawless, the lyrics are perfect. About one minute into the song, her husband Chad Kroeger comes in. I think his voice fits perfectly into the song, and their voices are amazing together - she has a lighter, more delicate voice and he has a deeper voice. Perfect.

2.17
This song is is a great pop-rock anthem which showcases Avril's amazing vocal range and has a nostalgic feel. Every chorus makes you want to dance and sing along, so it's a winner for me. A great, upbeat, feel-good track.

3. Rock 'n' Roll
This is by far one of my favourite songs from the album. I love the cheerleader-style beat, and I love the meaning as Rock is my favourite type of music! I think its a great, fun song and great to sing along to (badly in my case).

4. Give You What You Like
I love the relaxed beat of this song, and the simple structure. Her vocals are slightly deeper and more controlled - It shows how much her voice has matured. A beautiful song

5. Hush Hush
This is a gorgeous song about moving on from a breakup. Her voice is beautiful and delicate in the verse, but becomes stronger in the chorus. The simplicity makes it even more beautiful; one of my favourites.

6. Bad Girl
I'm not sure about Marilyn Manson on this track, but I love the echoey filter on her voice - it reminds me a tiny bit of arctic monkeys or muse - and this one is definitely a rock song.

7. Bitchin' Summer
I do love this song, but as the album came out in November, this song, along with Sippin' On Sunshine, is a little harder to relate to. I can imagine it being a being a big hit in summer, and it is a great song to lift your mood.

8. Hello Heartache
A beautiful, heartfelt breakup ballad - not boring though, due to the background music and fairly fast-paced beat.

9. You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet
I do love this song, but i think it might be one too many teen-pop songs on this album - cute though.

10. Here's To Never Growing Up
I'm not quite as keen on this one as I think it is a bit repetitive and was maybe not the best choice for a first single. I do think it has a great message though, and a fun beat - you've got to love Avril for staying true to herself after all this time.

11. Falling Fast
The first thing that I couldn't help noticing about this song was that it reminded me a lot of 'Fast Cars' by Tracy Chapman. I don't know if this was intentional, but it really is very similar. It's a beautiful song with soft background music, and it's easy to listen to.

12. Sippin' On Sunshine
I think this will be a great song to sing live - with the audience singing along with every 'hey!' - a great summery anthem

13. Hello Kitty
This one is not really my taste; I love that she is experimenting with different  music styles like dubstep, but it's just not really my style.

So in general, I loved the album, but there is maybe one too many nostalgic teen-pop songs; other than that, an amazing 5th album!
